Regarding Microsoft's OpenSource plans for .NET Framewok

Hi!

First some background: We are developing an application based on Microsoft.NET. The application is written entirely in C# and the GUI has been created with WPF/XAML. Currently, the application isWindows-only, but in the near future we will need Linux and Mac OS X support too.

Now, we have heard that Microsoft is planning make the .NET Framework entirely OpenSource soon. But whatexactly does this mean for us? We are a bit confused here!

In particular: Is Microsoft going to release a special version of its .NET Framework for the Linux and Mac OS X platforms, e.g. in the form of setup packages? And if so, will it befully compatible to the Windows version? Or will Microsoft "only" make their source codes available, but leave all the rest to projects likeMono? In other words: Will we still be required to go the Mono route to provide Linux and Mac OS X support?

Finally: What do Microsoft's OpenSource plans mean for WPF? The Mono web-site explicitly says that they donot support WPF and also have no plans for that. Bummer! Now that Microsoft will make their code OpenSource, will Microsoft release a WPF version for Linux and Mac OS X? Maybe as a part of their .NET Framework package for these platforms, or maybe as an add-on library for the Mono runtime? Or will they at least provide the required code, so that WPF can finally be adopted into Mono? What are the plans?

Thanks in advance for clarification!

Best Regards
Daniel
